Did you know that the average person in the United Kingdom spends a whole day on their phone every week?

A fifth of 16-to-24-year-olds spends an astounding seven hours each day online, according to a separate Ofcom survey reported by the Telegraph. That is equivalent to more than two 24-hour days every week.

There is, as expected, a significant digital difference between generations. Only 1% of those over the age of 65 and 6% of those between the ages of 55 and 64 report spending more than 50 hours a week online, whether on their phone, computer, laptop, or tablet. This compared to 18 percent of those between the ages of 16 and 25, or over 1,100,000 young people.

According to the same Ofcom survey, the average phone user checks their device every 12 minutes, whether to read emails, respond to texts, share yet another cute cat video with a coworker, or browse Facebook!

If you have purchased a new phone or are considering doing so, you may be wondering what to do with your old one. Instead of storing it away and forgetting about it, why not transform it into something cool? PCMag gives some advice:

  • Make it a camera for your children to utilize. You can use Wi-Fi to send the photos to your email address so that you can print and post them on the refrigerator!
  • Use it as a game phone — there are a plethora of Apple and Android applications that do not require an internet connection.
  • If you use Skype and FaceTime frequently, you may convert your phone into a specialized video calling device. It will conserve battery life on your new phone!
  • If you like to read books but don't want to pay for an e-reader, you can use your phone. Simply download the Amazon Kindle app on your iOS or Android smartphone and sync your purchases, Prime Reading books, and free ebooks.
  • Do you prefer listening to books rather than reading them? Download an application such as Audible, sit back, and utilize your phone to listen to your favorite books.
  • If you use a music streaming service, you can also use your old phone as a music player to save the battery on your new phone. Connect a Bluetooth speaker or use earphones to increase the volume.
